November 2nd, 2019
We are thrilled with the turnout from our “pop-up” gravel ride on Saturday, November 2, 2019. It was a staged from Cochran’s Ski Area in Richmond, Vermont and was a low-key, free and unsupported ride. About 35 riders participated, with a mass start departing at 9 am.
RTF BOD members Tom Broido and John Williams participated and our newest RTF BOD member, Chris Morrisey, volunteered tech and sag support. Alan Cote donated his announcing and music system and provided pre-ride updates to everyone.
The Routes
Despite a Halloween storm that washed out many roads in the area, we offered three challenging routes ranging from 40 miles to 65-miles. The route was mostly unpaved with little-to-no traffic and challenging climbs including Shaker Hill, Lincoln Hill, and Stage Road. Despite the Halloween storm, roads were mostly in good shape.
There was a contingent of fast riders who led us out and soon disappeared from the sight of those riding at a more moderate pace. The scenery along the way was spectacular. At the conclusion of the ride, Tom Broido cooked the burgers and brats provided by RTF and everyone enjoyed the food and drinks.
A Special Thanks
We want to give a very special thanks to those who dropped generous donations into the RTF donation bottle! Thanks to Cochran’s Ski Area and Jimmy Cochran for providing the venue. It was an excellent day for all.
